This cough syrup is a recipe from Rosemary Gladstar. It has a pleasant taste and is best taken when a coughing bout starts. Fennel calms indigestion and diarrhea, and licorice is a strong mucosal anti-inflammatory and eases dry coughs and sore throats, Slippery elm is especially helpful for diarrhea in children and is a nourishing herb for the stomach and overall weakened persons. Wild cherry not only tastes good but has a long history of use in cough syrups because of its cooling properties that expel phlegm and soothe and dry out mucous membranes. It is also beneficial for a number of respiratory and digestive complaints.
